by Andy Chen on May 15 2022
What if you could charge all your devices on the fly, even if you forgot their chargers? It's not too good to be true. With the Wireless PowerShare feature, your phone can reverse charge another phone, watch, or Galaxy Buds. All you need to do is place the two devices together. Note: Wireless PowerShare works with most Qi-Compatible devices. This feature may not work with some cases, accessories, or other manufacturers' devices.   Compatible Samsung devices Most Qi-Compatible Samsung devices can be charged with Wireless PowerShare, but check out the full list of compatible devices just in case. The speed and power of the charge will vary by device. Phones that can use and also be charged with Wireless PowerShare: Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G Galaxy Note10, Note10+, and Note10+ 5G     Galaxy Fold, Z Fold2, and Z Fold3 Galaxy Z Flip, Z Flip 5G, and Z Flip3 Galaxy S20 5G, S20+ 5G, S20 Ultra 5G, and S20 FE Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+, and S10 5G     Other devices that can be charged by Wireless PowerShare: Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Buds2, Galaxy Buds+, Galaxy Buds Live, and Galaxy Buds Pro Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic, Gear Sport, and Gear S3     Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, S8/S8+, S9/S9+, Note8, and Note9 Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Watch Active2     Share power and charge with Wireless PowerShare Of course, you know how to get the most out of your battery, so you've got plenty to spare. When you're ready to perform a charging trick, here’s how to activate Wireless PowerShare and charge another device. Note: Adjust the position of the devices to ensure their connection is good because the location of the wireless charging coil varies by device. Foldable devices will need to be closed. Using Wireless PowerShare may affect call reception or data services, depending on your network environment. First, confirm that the phone with PowerShare is charged to at least 30%. Swipe down from the top of your screen with two fingers to open Quick settings, and then tap the Wireless PowerShare icon. If the icon's not there, you may need to add the PowerShare quick setting. Next, place the PowerShare phone and a compatible device back to back. To stop charging, just separate the two devices from each other. The PowerShare feature will automatically turn off after 60 seconds when no other device is detected. You can also charge your Galaxy phone as it charges another device. Simply connect your phone to the charging cable that came with it while using PowerShare.

What type of charger do I get for my Samsung smart watch for fitness watch?

by Andy Chen on May 15 2022
Smart watch chargers There are two types of chargers you can use with your Samsung smart watch: a flat charging dock or a charging dock with pins. The type you need depends on which model watch you have, and the correct charger will come with your watch. If you don't have a compatible Samsung wall charger, they can be purchased separately.  Flat charging dock This type of charger usually comes in the box with newer watch models (2019 or newer) and is compatible with the following: Galaxy Watch Active Galaxy Watch Active2 Galaxy Watch3 Galaxy Watch4     To use a flat charging dock, simply plug in the USB end to an adapter, and then plug that into a power source. Place your watch (facing upward) on the magnetic dock and allow it to charge.   Wireless Charging dock This charger is usually included with older watch models (2017 and 2018). The following watches can be used with this type of charging dock: Galaxy Watch Gear S3 Gear Sport     To use this charging dock, plug it in and then place your watch inside the dock. Allow the watch to charge. If the charger comes with an LED indicator, this light will let you know when the watch is fully charged.   Charging dock cradle The Galaxy Fit2 comes with a unique charging cradle that doesn't work with any other type of watch. To use it, plug the charger into a power source. Then, place the Fit2 inside of the cradle and allow the fitness band to charge. Replacement chargers for the Fit2 are not available for purchase. If you are having issues charging your fitness band, please see the "Best practices for charging your watch" section.  Other ways to charge your watch Wireless power sharing Some watches are also compatible with Wireless power sharing, which allows you to place your watch on the back of a Galaxy phone to charge it. This is very handy when your watch has a low battery but your charger is out of reach. Check out our guide on Wireless power sharing to learn how to use this feature. Newer models that support Qi technology will be able to use Wireless power sharing. The following watches are compatible: Galaxy Watch Galaxy Watch Active Galaxy Watch Active2 Gear S3     Galaxy Watch4 Galaxy Watch3 Gear Sport     Wireless charging pads In addition to regular watch chargers, you can also buy charging pads, some of which can charge multiple devices at once, such as your smart watch and Galaxy phone! Just plug the charging pad into an outlet and place your device(s) on top.     Note: The Galaxy Fit2 can only be charged using the charging cradle. It does not support other charging methods. Best practices for charging your watch If you’re having trouble charging your smart watch, you can review the following tips to make sure you’re using your charger correctly. Samsung reccomends using a compatible Samsung wall charger with the charging dock that matches your watch. Wall chargers can be purchased separately. When using a wireless charging dock, please be aware that any metal or magnetic materials (e.g., coins, magnetic cards) placed between the watch and the wireless charger may decrease charging efficiency. These materials placed between the watch and wireless charger may also cause damage to the watch or charger. When using a wired charging dock, always check whether any foreign objects are in the connector or plug, as they may prevent charging or cause the dock to overheat. When using Wireless power sharing, you may need to remove accessories or covers from your phone. Try not to move the phone or the watch while the watch is charging.  Information Sorced from Samsung Website

Professional Looking Photos with your Smartphone - Bitplay Professional Smartphone Lens System Review

by Andy Chen on Nov 26 2018
Professional Looking Photos Using Smartphone Camera Review: Bitplay Professional Smartphone Camera Add-on Lens System The biggest job perk of being a phone store manager for almost 20 years is that I get to use any phones I want for as long as I want them. Camera functionality has always been one of the key components when I choose which phone to use day to day. From the early days of the Nokia 12Megapixel N series, to the Sony 21Megapixel Z series and all series of Samsung Galaxy, Apple iPhone, and HTC one with moving photos, to the current Huawei mate and Google pixel AI-enhanced camera phones, I can say the technology under the hood of these phones has come a long way. However, having been a smartphone photographer for all my adult life and taking commercial photos for events, product placement photos for Instagram and Facebook, and the ever-important family holiday photos, I don’t think a day goes by without me opening the camera app on my phone. Some people might think the purposely built action camera and AI-enhanced photographic smartphone technology are overhyped. I can’t help but think the consumer grade point and shoot digital camera’s days are numbered. It's all about lenses Smartphone cameras have always had a limitation in terms of the type of lenses they use. The lens is fixed and cannot be designed as an all-in-one. This determines the quality of close-up macro shots, long-range zoom-in shots, and crowded selfie shots that need the extra width. Some of these issues can be overcome by using software to stitch up multiple photos with panoramic mode or digitally zooming in on the picture, but the final product will not be as good, and this certainly cannot be done when you are shooting a video. That is why phone manufacturers came up with dual or quad lens camera phones for different situations. Now the latest iPhone Xs comes with a f/1.8 wide-angle lens build-in on the back and a f/2.2 wide-angle lens for the front camera, specifically for those crowded selfies. While it is good that phone manufacturers are addressing these limitations by bringing out shiny new devices with lenses that fit, not everybody has the $2000 budget to upgrade. This is where third party lenses come in. There are a few of them out there but they mostly don’t stack up. Blurry images and distortion are the least of the issues. Some have hair line cracks or affect the colour saturation. A few professional brands stand out from the rest. Moment, Olloclip, and ITFIT are all pretty reliable. Now the latest iPhone Xs comes with a f/1.8 wide-angle lens build-in on the back and a f/2.2 wide-angle lens for the front camera, specifically for those crowded selfies. Bitplay Lenses Review Today I got my hands on a set of bitplay lenses and will be focusing on reporting their functionality and the quality of the photos after using them for a trial period. The price of bitplay lenses is nowhere near the Olloclip or Moment lens so it doesn’t feel like buying a new set of equipment to fix an existing one. This is a plus for me. For the sake of comparison, I am taking an iPhone 7 Plus out on this task. For stability control, I used a Snap!7 plus case on the iPhone so I can fix it onto a tripod with its built-in 1/4-20 UNC threads. This takes away the possibility of a shaking movement when the photos are taken that could skew the test result. The Snap!7 case is nicely built, fits the phone firmly and provides a good grip and protection for the device. It has a mechanical shutter button positioned naturally on the top right-hand corner and a thumb stopper where you can place your thumb to complete the grip without touching the screen, a feature no other mobile lens systems have. That being said, although the add-on case makes the phone so much better when using it as a camera, it does make the phone thicker. I wouldn’t use the case on a day-to-day bases, only during a photo session. For stability control, I used a Snap!7 plus case on the iPhone so I can fix it onto a tripod with its built-in 1/4-20 UNC threads. Bitplay has a good range of lenses and lens filters from HD wide angle to full frame fisheye lenses and everything in between. The M52 CPL Filter and the circular polarizer lens filter provide even more ways you can create those dreamy shots that only a DSLR could before. My mission today is to test out the three lenses that are most widely used in different situations. Firstly, the Telephoto lens. I used the HD telephoto lens which has 2x optical zoom. Even though the iPhone 7 plus has its own 2x zoom telephoto lens, the non-plus version does not. Using the lens on an iPhone 6, 7, or 8 gives the phone the extra function it lacks from its plus family. But I want to find out if the image result stacks up with the original plus family equipment. The result was mind blowing. I took a shot using the iPhone 7 Plus’s natural 2x optical zoom lens (the factory build-in lens) of the Sydney Opera House all the way across the harbor from Milson’s Point. At the same position, I used the normal lens (the first built-in lens) with the bitplay HD 2x telephoto lens. Both photos came out nice and clear. The white balance is a bit off using the add-on lens because the cloud moved in, but image is clean and detailed. What surprises me the most is when I blow it up digitally by 100 times, the writing on a building so far away that my naked eye couldn’t even see the building at the time suddently becomes legible. Now, imagine you are sitting in a narrow VIP room in a small restaurant with a dozen of your best friends, and you want to take a photo of everybody including the food on the table. We know this can only be done by placing your friends on top of each other in awkward positions while trying to keep their heads down near the table so the food can be included in the shot. Well, not if you have the bitplay wide angle or the fisheye lens. I can’t replicate the situation for the photoshoot mainly because I don’t have a dozen friends nor a restaurant that’s willing to let me use it’s VIP room for free. But from my position underneath the Sydney Harbor Bridge, it is virtually impossible to get a shot of the whole bridge as well as of the Opera House and a bit of the grassy foreground to add a sense of depth to the picture. Well, I did it with ease using the bitplay HD EF18mm wide angle lens. And if you look closely, you will find there are no visible distortions. There are no crooked edges and all the straight bridge structures are clear and straight as an arrow. Lastly, I took a few shots using the fisheye lens. Normally we don’t see the fisheye photo as we would perceive our surroundings, but I can think of many Instagram and Facebook posts using these photos to show off and let the viewer appreciate the natural surroundings of an open beach or a mountaintop. A full house Taylor Swift concert or school orchestra performance are just some examples. These smartphone photos and videos are not just a picture of a significant object or a place you have been. These photos capture moments of our life we want to cherish. Years from now I will look back at my photos and say to myself, I had a wonderful life. And for now, these bitplay lenses help me capture the extra details I wouldn’t have otherwise.

Secret iPhone build-in trackpad you always wanted Ever run into the situation that you wanted to add a few words or letters in your email or SMS on your iphone or iPad but doesn’t matter how accurately you try to touch the spot, the cursor just won’t go where you wanted it to go? Taking iPhone Photography To The Next Level With Bitplay 3X Telephoto Lens

by Andy Chen on Sep 05 2018
Image quality has come a long way since the early days of the iPhone’s 2-megapixel camera. Today, your iPhone’s camera can produce some spectacular photos. However, as with a conventional DSLR camera, you can take your photography to a whole new level by simply adding a telephoto lens. Enter the Bitplay Clip With 3X Telephoto Lens. Unlocking Your iPhone’s Photographic Potential Even though there are times when it feels like your iPhone’s basic is holding back your creativity, now there is a third-party accessory that holds the key to fully unlocking your iPhone’s photographic potential. Truly the hottest accessories for your iPhone are the new generation of external lenses. These are designed specifically to transform iPhone photography by attaching flexible lenses commonly used on mainstream DSLR cameras, whether it’s a telephoto, macro or wide-angle lens. While many die-hard traditional photographers still resist embracing the iPhone phenomenon, it’s becoming harder with the advent of lens options like the Bitplay 3X telephoto lens for the Apple iPhone. This is an option that can really change the way you shoot. Bitplay enjoys a reputation for excellent lens optics and this newest addition promises incredibly low distortion in such a tiny package. Adventure And Landscape Photographers Rejoice If you’re a landscape or adventure photographer, have a passion for street photography or a fondness for shooting cityscapes, this is the lens for you! Just as Moment and Zeiss changed the way photographers worked their iPhones, Bitplay’s new telephoto lens offering promises a similar revolution! While there is little doubt smartphones still have some way to go before truly giving DSLR cameras a run for their money from a professional perspective, Bitplay’s new telephoto lens is closing that gap. For the everyday average consumer, smartphone cameras are now at a point where one really has to wonder about the need for a conventional multi-lens camera. Even more so now iPhone add-on lenses such as Bitplay’s new telephoto lens are becoming both more popular and delivering higher quality. It’s now more than just a convenience thing. Bitplay has announced their innovative CLIP for iPhone, which makes using their range of accessory lenses way easy and super simple. The clip is more than just the name of the product. It is the description of how it works too.   All you simply do is clip the CLIP onto your iPhone and then screw in your Bitplay 3X telephoto lens onto the Clip. It’s that simple, and it works for both the iPhone’s front and rear-facing cameras, so you can use your CLIP in whichever way is convenient for you. Moreover, the CLIP’s interior is lined with a soft silicone finish to ensure the case doesn’t cause any damage to your precious iPhone. With the CLIP being priced under $20 and telephoto lens at $64.95 it also won’t cost you an arm and a leg either. Pros Great good build quality Small Lightweight Magnified zoom (3 times magnification) without adjusting your iPhone Minimal distortion Cons Slightly prone to fingerprints Gear Used We tested the 3X telephoto lens for the iPhone with the newest edition of their CLIP and our Apple iPhone 6s. Build Quality The Bitplay 3X telephoto lens is made from solid metal and glass. It’s large enough room to handle it easily without it feeling clumsy or fragile. Your iPhone's Photographic potential Ergonomics The true magic of the Bitplay 3X telephoto lens shines through with its use. The lens itself becomes much smaller when you remove the lens hood and the cap. However, that may not be the optimum way to use this little gem as the front element is prone to collecting fingerprints even when being handled normally. Focusing With the 3X telephoto lens, the focusing is handled through the iPhone. So, focusing is a breeze. Remember, your scene is now so wide and the sensor is already so small that it’s almost impossible to get a shot out of focus. Yeah! Image Quality The Bitplay 3X telephoto lens has an admirable image quality with a character that wouldn’t be out of place on a DSLR camera lens. This lens provides sharp, clear contrasting images and most importantly copes with flare in a subdued fashion. Overall Ease Of Use BitPlay has their own bespoke app although you may end up not bothering with their app. However, the Bitplay 3X telephoto lens’s overall ease of use is as impressive as what this miniature marvel of a lens can do. The only mildly tricky part is avoiding getting the lens glass dirty when you are mounting it. It helps not to have fat fingers! Spot a moment without your DSLR Final Observation If shooting images with your iPhone is your passion then I really can’t recommend the Bitplay 3X telephoto lens highly enough. It offers a truly fantastic image quality and is remarkably easy to use. You’ll soon discover a lens option like the Bitplay 3X telephoto lens for the Apple iPhone is an affordable option that really will change the way you approach your photography. For that alone, I recommend you give it a shot! Written by Jaymi Stacey who receivd finicial benefit for this blog post.

Simple ways to ensure your mobile device is secure

by Andy Chen on Sep 14 2017
In this day and age majority of us rely on our mobile device on a daily basis to perform various daily tasks such as sending text messages, internet banking for paying bills, surfing the internet to look up reviews on restaurants etc. Due to this most mobile phones often contain a fair amount of private information that should be stored securely. Mobile device security has become an increasingly important concern amongst mobile device users with the increasing number of cyber threats these days. This leads us to the question of what exactly is mobile device security? Mobile security is the protection of smartphones, tablets, laptops and other portable computing devices, and the networks they connect to, from threats and vulnerabilities associated with wireless computing. Mobile security is also known as wireless security. Recent studies have shown that businesses are showing increasing interest in mobile device security due to the rise in cyber threats and business owners realise that majority of the mobile devices provided by the business to their employees often contain various valuable information which could easily be stolen. There are various of ways to increase your mobile device security may it be your personal mobile device or as a business. The most basic way of securing your mobile device is set a password, Personal Identification Number (PIN), passcode, gesture or fingerprint that must be entered to unlock the device. Don’t forget to put PINs on your SIM card, voicemail and also ensure the device is set to automatically lock. Secondly it is recommended to install a reputable anti virus software on your mobile device. There are various kinds of anti virus softwares and if you’re interested we are able to provide you some advice on which to pick may it be for your own personal device or for your business needs. Besides that, it is also advisable to leave Bluetooth turned off or in hidden mode (hidden) when you are not using it. Record the International Mobile Equipment Identifier (IMEI) of your handset. Your IMEI is a 15 or 17 digit number often printed on a label under the battery or found in the Settings under General information about your device. If your device is lost or stolen, report this number to your provider and they can stop the handset from being used. It would also be advisable to always use a VPN when using public Wi-Fi at public places like at the airport, cafes, shopping centres and hotels. These "open" networks also involve un-encrypted connections, leaving users at great risk. These hotspots are an easy target for hackers and nefarious people trying to steal login passwords, credit card information and content of communications or other personal details. These also pose other threats, such as man-in-the-middle attacks, Wi-Fi sniffing and malware. Finally we also encourage users to switch on the remote locking or wiping function if the device supports this function to enable the user to remotely erase all the information in their device in case it gets stolen or missing. Besides increasing the security of your mobile device we also encourage users to regularly backup their device either with a backup application or by manually syncing the device with a computer. You may contact us if you are interested in finding out more about anti virus softwares or cloud services to backup and store your data for your personal device or business.

The rise in gas and electricity prices and how home automation could help you save money

by Melissa Foo on Aug 15 2017
Since July this year, several big energy provide companies including AGL, EnergyAustralia and Origin have announced a hike in the prices of their electricity and gas prices. AGL announced back in June that the price hike would be as much as $600 a year in some states and EnergyAustralia has announced electricity price rises of close to 20 per cent for residential and business customers in both South Australia and New South Wales from July 1. Meanwhile, Origin announced hikes of 16% in both NSW and South Australia. EnergyAustralia blamed the impact of higher wholesale power prices following the closure of large coal-fired generators, increased demand for gas by liquefied natural gas projects in Queensland, and reliability issues with some big generators. The price hike may be a huge concern to most households hence we would like to introduce home automation and how it can help households save on energy consumption. Gone were the days when home automation only involved setting your VCR player to record your favourite tv show. Technology has advanced tremendously in the past decade. What does home automation involve you may ask and how does it help save energy consumption? Home automation is all about automating the ability to control items around the house—from window shades to pet feeders—with a simple push of a button (or a voice command) via your mobile device. At first glance setting up your home with home automation may seem very costly and unnecessary but in reality activities, like setting up a lamp to turn on and off at your whim, are simple to set up and relatively inexpensive. Others, like advanced surveillance cameras, may require a more serious investment of time and money but yet not as difficult and costly as we may imagine. Home automation helps households monitor and save energy consumption which directly translates to saving money. For example, if all of your major appliances are integrated and linked via an automated system, the system will choose the best and most cost-effective time for each appliance to operate, rather than running all of them simultaneously, or in peak times. Imagine leaving your home for vacation only to realise you forgot to switch off your central heating. With home automation you are able to send a command to switch off the heating in your house via your mobile device.  Best of all, you will be able to teach the system to automate what goes on or off depending on your living habits. eg. have the system turn off all the heating at 7 am in the morning before you go to work or turn on night light when it senses movement in the hall way after midnight. Or even open the garage door when you and your mobile is down the road on the way home.    Home automation doesn't just work for your home but it could also be installed at a work place to suit your office needs and help your business save energy and money. The concept is the same and you can use it to monitor your office energy usage via your mobile device. There’s various types of home automation devices that you can get ranging from a smart light bulb that allows you to switch on/off and dim it via your mobile device, security camera kits with sensors and power controllers which allows you to monitor your home via wireless camera and send  commands to switch off electrical devices when you’re not home and also smart electricity meter displays which shows you your energy usage in your home which would enable you to identify and switch off appliances that are using too much energy in your household .                          We stock a wide range of home automation products which you may directly browse here however if you’re interested in finding out more but do not know where to start do contact us and ask us more about turning your home or office into a smart home/office and start saving money.

Declutter your unused mobile phones and recycle it today

by Andy Chen on Jul 10 2017
We all know about the importance of recycling in general but not many of us know about mobile phone recycling. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Australians are hoarding approximately 23 million unused mobile phones, About 98% of mobile phones can actually be recycled. However figures show that only approximately 13% of mobile phones are currently being recycled. This means there are a lot of materials available that could be recovered simply through recycling. There are 29 million mobile phone subscribers in Australia. About 9 million new handsets are shipped here every year, and most Australians upgrade their handset every 18-24 months. The good news? It's easy to do the right thing. All you have to do is recycle your old mobiles and accessories, and encourage others to do the same. Why recycle you may ask. Recycling your mobile phone helps : Reduces pollution caused by hazardous materials from mobile phones entering the environment from landfill or incineration. It reduces the effects of global warming by reducing the amount of CO2 and methane gas entering our environment from decomposing waste in landfill. It reduces the waste and habitat damage associated with the extraction of raw materials like plastics. 4 Simple Ways to Take Charge of Your Finances

by Melissa Foo on Jun 10 2017
In today’s economy with the constant rise in cost of living and inflation, we are constantly looking for ways to increase our income and savings. There are many ways we can increase our income and savings. Here are among some little things you could be doing to achieve your goal. Never pay unnecessary fees Welcome to 2017, and for some, welcome to another fee. If you're paying an annual fee on your  credit card, ask to have it waived. Worst case scenario is your balance transfers to a better rate and a card with no annual fee – easy! Also make an effort to ensure that your bills are paid on time. Certain companies offer their customers a small discount as an incentive for paying your bills early or on time. Credit card providers often charge additional fees and interest if you do not pay your balance off each month.  Use your virtual assistant in your smartphone to keep you reminded on the due dates as soon as you receive the bill. Siri and OK google does a fantastic job in noting reminders in your calendar.  Start spending wiser Your daily work lunches might seem cheap at $10 a day, but then that's $200 a month and approximately $2200 a year (excluding a month's holiday). Dedicate an afternoon each week to grocery shopping, and pack your lunches rather than purchasing them. Make sure you take a pre-written list to avoid impulse buying.  Another good example of this is getting a mobile phone contract. Signing up to a 2 year mobile phone contract may seem cheap at first but over the course of 2 years it actually ends up costing the customer significantly more than buying the mobile phone outright.  Even if you can't afford to purchase a mobile phone outright, you can still purchase a mobile phone outright interest free off our website via ZipPay. You can read more about ZipPay in the link below. https://www.phoneinc.com.au/pages/zippay Creating a detailed account of your current expenditure will also help to create clear picture of where most of your expenditure is going to and in that way you can easily eliminate unnecessary expenditure. You can use spreadsheets on your phone to create detailed budgeting lists. Do not save just to save but to invest instead Investing may seem daunting at first but start off small. You may start off with looking into investing your superannuation.  We ain’t no professionals in regards to providing investment advice however we are able to provide you with some gadgets/devices that you can invest in to further help you save money. For instance Solar Panels may seem costly at first however in the long run the saving does outweigh the cost of the solar panels.  Another good range of gadgets to invest in are home automation products. Home automation products have become more popular in recent years. They are not overly costly to set up but the savings you’ll earn from it is incredible.  The main key to building up a regular savings is to set money aside automatically. You can do this by automatically setting your bank account to put a set amount of money into a separate account on a weekly or monthly basis. This way you wouldn’t even realise that you have money set aside and before you know it you will have built up a substantial amount of savings.   Make side income  If you find that your main income isn’t enough why not generate a side income may it be by selling some of your creations from your existing hobbies (baking, knitting, card making etc) . Uber and Airtasker are also great ways of generating side income. If you already own a car utilise it and be an Uber driver. Or utilise your man power to help someone move their couch on Airtasker for extra income. In line with generating side income we will be discussing how you can generate additional income for yourself or your business by recycling mobile phones in our next blog post.

Introduction of Australian Mobile Network

by Andy Chen on May 11 2016
https://prezi.com/2ax3k9llhygj/introduction-of-australian-mobile-network/ Presented by Phoneinc, your communication specialist Communication is very important in our everyday life and when you first come to Australia it might seem a bit confusing as to how our mobile network is used and charged. Don’t worry, after this presentation most of your question will be answered and you will be able to work out what is best for you during your stay. We will go through how everything works here and detailing some of the call plans from the major network service providers in the next 10 minutes. We will also give you an opportunity to ask questions you might have relating to your communication needs after the presentation. How many of you have are planning to your own mobile or smartphone?  We don’t leave home without it, right? Make sure they are unlocked before you stick a new SIM card in it and ask why it’s not working? There are three cell phone networks in Australia namely: Telstra, Vodafone, and Optus. And there are more than a dozen of smaller operators and resellers like boost mobile, virgin mobile, amaysim, lebara, just mobile, ALDI mobile just to name a few. Each operator also has multiple plans to address different market, some with more domestic talk time, or Unlimited SMS, some with extra Data allowance, or cheaper international call rate to selected countries, and some has free minutes at certain hours, or longer expiry period or some even have a combination of them. This makes selecting the right plan a confusing task for locals, not to mention someone from abroad. Phoneinc has been proudly advising and providing Universities and their students on their communication needs for the past 7 years. We are not an exclusive agent for any of the networks, nor a device manufacturer so we work solely for the students’ benefit, negotiating the best deal on the market. More importantly, we understand your need; from the length of your stay to people you’d like to call; or activities you will most likely to uptake to make a recommendation on the best solutions. We understand some of you will bring your beloved smartphone and will be eager to use them once you get off the plan. Therefore, we will have them ready here and after a quick activation, you will be ready to make your first phone call in Australia. Some of you will explore the city or cities in Australia during your stay and may run into situation where you would lose your phone or have your phone stolen; that’s why we also offer an economical handset as a secondary phone to help you minimize the risk and damages and still be able to communicate with your friend and loved one. Most important of all, our help is always just a phone call away. If there is any issue or inquiry regarding your communication needs, just call or message us on facebook or the website, we will be happy to help. 02) 92126555 The major difference between the way calls are charged between Australia and America is in Australia, calls works on credit which are the dollar amount used base on a call rate. Call rate is usually advertised per minute rate but is calculated base on 30-seconds block. There is also a call connection fee call the flag fall, which is charged once when a call is initiated and connected. Data rate are displayed as per MB but charges are calculated base on per KB session. International call rates are also displayed as per minute rate but are usually charged per 30-second. For each of the offering, Australia government has regulated that every telecommunication provider needed to provide detailed rates and charges and are usually called “Critical Information Summary”. In it, you will find everything you need to know about the call rate and charges for any type of usage under that particular plan.   There are 6 key questions you will need to ask yourself to help you decide what the best plan is for you: How long will you be staying in Australia?  There are plans with credit expire from a few days to a full year. Once the credit expires, you will only able to receive calls but not making outgoing calls or TXT, not to mention go online. But you will still be able to make emergency calls to authority by dialing 112 from your handset. What is the type of usage you will use your phone most often? Do you use the phone for local calls or international calls? Do you rather TXT people then talking? Do you upload photos on social networks or uses GPS to get around that require a good amount of Data? Do you mostly call the same group of people on a particular network? How much of usage will you need on the phone? The sky is the limit when it comes to spending on mobile services, but do you really need all that included calls or SMS? Credits have an expiry date, any unused credit will be forfeited after the date. So more credit doesn’t mean merrier, but to have a right amount for each of the usage required, e.g. included data, SMS, free calls, etc How often do you need support? Need to make sure the network you are with have stores everywhere so when you lost you SIM or something goes wrong, you are not left in a limbo trying to get someone from an India call center to sent you a replacement SIM or troubleshoot with you over the troubled phone. (It will not end well.) What is the data speed you are getting? There are 3 types of speeds, in general, you can receive your data in 2G/GPRS, 3G/HSPDA, 4G/LTE. If speed is important to you, make sure your data allowance is not limited to a slower connection. Where will you be traveling to? All three networks are pretty good in the metropolitan area but due to the frequency license, some will have trouble getting through walls or concrete block. This means if you are mostly in an apartment block, basements, car parks and etc., you will have limited reception. As for the rural area of Australia, Telstra has the biggest coverage but along the freeway and Highways, Optus and Vodafone also have coverage in populated areas.   Call Credit are the amount of money you have in your phone account to make outgoing calls. Depending on the call rate of your call, it converts to the minutes you get. There is no charge to you receiving phone calls and after your credit expires, your number will still be available for another 3 months to receive calls and text. Please note international calls are expensive unless you are on an international calling plan or have international calls included in the plan. To dial internationally, dial 0011 follow the country code and follow by the phone number without the initial 0. Have a read through the details of the different plan as they have different inclusions and our advice is if you don’t think you will be making much of calls, then start with a small recharge and work your way up if necessary. But if you think you have a lot to talk about, start on the bigger plan and work your way down so you won’t be taken by surprise.

This is the year of the Android camera

by Melissa Foo on Jul 24 2015
COMMENT The Samsung Galaxy S6 might currently have the best smartphone camera there is, but it has competition. Photo: Samsung Earlier this year, HTC updated its flagship phone, the HTC One. The new model was a stunning piece of hardware, a beautifully moulded slab of aluminium and glass. The software matched the hardware; the operating system and built in apps had a gorgeous, cohesive design. The HTC One had only one flaw, but it was a deal breaker; the camera sucked. A few weeks ago HTC released a firmware update to fix the camera, but it's still not good enough. In perfect lighting situations, photos from the HTC One are as good as any point and shoot. Outside of perfect conditions, photos look like they were shot through a bowl of soup.Today, the best camera in a smartphone may well be inside the Samsung Galaxy S6.  The dud camera inside the otherwise great HTC One was a damn shame but, until now, Android cameras have largely been pretty hit and miss. Thankfully this is changing. In 2015, flagship Android devices are finally shipping with flagship cameras. The camera on the LG G4 improves on Samsung's entry in every way on paper, but it's yet to be fully tested in the real world. Photo: LG Today, the best camera in a smartphone may well be inside the Samsung Galaxy S6. The Verge's Dieter Bohn writes, "There's probably no greater source of complaints with Android phones than their cameras. Samsung has always managed to float above the sea of Android photographic disappointment, but never really soared. With the S6 and its optically stabilised, 16-megapixel sensor, it's really starting to fly." Tom's Hardware calls it the "best smartphone camera on the market right now". I'm no camera expert, but the Samsung Galaxy S6 camera is a joy to use. The S6's relatively wide 1.9 aperture allows more light to enter the camera, allowing for a faster shutter. In simple terms, this means better low light performance and clear, crisp shots in most other conditions. On a recent trip to Hobart, the camera's performance rivalled the best point and shoot cameras I've used. The S6's reign as top smartphone camera may be short lived. The LG G4, released this week, is receiving even better reviews for its camera. With more advanced optical stabilisation and an even lighter 1.8 aperture, it may emerge as the new king once the dust settles. A first for smartphones, the G4 even lets you capture images in the RAW format as well as JPG. A new Sony flagship is rumoured for release this year, to follow the pictured Xperia Z3+ (called Z4 in Japan). Could the new phone raise the bar for cameras once again? Photo: Sony Gizmodo's Campbell Simpson writes: "For a smartphone, the G4's camera can't be beaten. Sorry, iPhone, that's just the way that it is now – this might sound like hyperbole, but it's not." I'm surprised it has taken Android manufacturers this long to challenge the iPhone for camera superiority. The iPhone has long been the most used camera on Flickr. Not just camera phone, the most popular camera of any type. Camera quality has long been one of Apple's key selling points for the iPhone. It makes sense. I don't know anyone with a point and shoot camera these days, the market has been in a steady decline for years. Meanwhile, smartphone cameras have been "good enough" for most people. It was the iPhone 4S that made smartphone cameras exceptional and, since then, Apple continued to improve the camera while Android cameras were still just good enough. Apple  has always focused  its efforts on the tangible qualities of  its products. Rather than spruik the specs – megapixels, processor speed or RAM, the things most people do not understand – Apple focuses on what the average person can see and feel. And the average person can see when a photo looks great. They know it's their iPhone that always grabs the perfect shot of their son or daughter. Apple's recent ad campaign for the iPhone, Shot on iPhone 6, ignores all other aspects of the phone to simply showcase the camera inside. This ad campaign went on to win the Gold Lion at Cannes. That's why the Samsung Galaxy S6 was such a revelation. For the last few years, I'd begun to prefer the Android experience over the iPhone. Since the release of KitKat, Android's last major update, Android  is a better fit for how I used my mobile device. Notifications were easier to deal with, the OS was faster to navigate, it all felt like an operating system far better designed for use in small bursts. But until the Samsung Galaxy S6, I'd still carry an iPhone with me to use as my camera. The S6 finally brought a camera to rival and, I think, beat the iPhone. Interestingly, the manufacturer of the camera inside the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Apple iPhone is Sony. Sony's next flagship phone is looking likely for September and I'm hoping Sony will raise the bar for Android cameras again. 2015 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for Android users. Finally, their cameras are some of the best in the business.

Is you phone running out of battery too quickly?

by Melissa Foo on Jun 26 2015
Battery life is related with CPU usage. Close all unnecessary applications. Some applications may not be shown on running program list. 1. Some applications running in the background may cause unwanted battery consumption. To close an application, use the back key rather then the home key. (The back key will close most applications, while the home key will place applications in stand-by mode.) 2. You can view the number of current running applications with Program monitor widget. (Some applications may not be shown.) Be cautious when installing unknown or unsecure applications, as this may cause excessive battery consumption.  3. After setting up a Google account, data communication takes place in the background. To extend stand-by time, deactivate Auto sync under Settings > Accounts and sync, and synchronise manually when necessary.  4. Keeping Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on is often the main acuse of battery drain.  5. In the event of excessive battery consumption or phone malfunction, restart the phone by pressing the power key for 8 seconds, or by pressing and holding the power key and selecting Power off.  If any of these do not work you can alternatively purchase a XiaoMi external power bank from our store.

How Blue-light is harmful and where is it from?

by Melissa Foo on Jun 05 2015
How Blue-light is harmful and where is it from? Our eyes detect a narrow band of wavelengths referred to as the “visible light spectrum”, which consist of the three primary colours: Blue (380–490nm), Green (490–590nm), and Red (590–780nm). These wavelengths transmit through to Retina, a light-sensitive layer of tissue lining the inner surface of the eye, and are ultimately sent various visual centres of the brain. As mentioned, blue-light (380–490nm) is being shorter in wavelength, thus carries more energy compare to other visible light. If light is allowed to reach retina directly without any protection mechanism, blue-light can inflict more damage on retina than the other colour. Research has determined that the lens inside our eye is able to filter out Red and Green light as they carry less energy. However, it is not able to filter out the high energy blue light. Adolescence and prepubescence are more vulnerable to such damage than matured adults, which permits more light to impact on the sensitive retina. Light from electronic devices is the light source we are most exposed to in our daily activities, only second to light from natural sources. Because of the wide spread and heavy use of electronic devices nowadays, such as monitor, TV screen, tablet and smart phone, it has drastically increased our exposure to the dangerous blue-light.   Consequences of chronic exposure to Blue-light The biggest threat of blue-light to our vision is the development of age-related macular degeneration.
